PUERTO PRINCESA, PHILIPPINES — Quite a few Asian countries call themselves the Pearl of the Orient, but never has the Philippines deserved the moniker more than now, with the discovery of this huge gem. The Puerto Princesa Tourism Office in Palawan recently unveiled a monstrous pearl measuring 67 centimeters long and 30 centimeters wide and weighing 34 kilograms. A tourism officer posted the photos of the pearl on Facebook, with a call for gemologists to certify its authenticity so that the city can use it to vy for the title of world’s biggest natural giant clam pearl. Women who like wearing jewelry usually love diamonds, gold, and silver. Other women prefer pearls. Pearls are beautiful, hard gems that come in white, red, gray, blue, green, and black. They are typically spherical in shape, but there are those that form unevenly, i.e. baroque pearls. Perfectly round pearls are considered the most beautiful and they are ideal to be used as jewelry. Oysters produce these precious, iridescent stones. Amazingly, they are the by-product of a biological process that occurs when an irritant or a foreign substance such as a food particle, enters an oyster’s shell. Contrary to popular belief, the irritant is hardly ever a grain of sand. Clams and mussels can also produce this precious stone, but not as frequent as oysters do. Imagine then this woman’s surprise ...
Round natural pearls are rarely found in nature. So when archaeologists uncovered a 2000-year-old near-round pearl on the north Kimberly coast of Western Australia, they described it as 'irreplaceable.' Round natural pearls are rarely found in nature. So when archaeologists from the University of Wollongong (UOW) and the University of New England (UNE) uncovered a 2000-year-old near-round pearl on the north Kimberly coast of Western Australia, they described it as 'irreplaceable.' The details of the findings have been published in the journal Australian Archaeology. The paper's lead author, Associate Professor Kat Szabó from UOW explained the challenges in determining the pearl's age, “Pearls have not been recovered before from ancient sites in Australia. Since the find is ...
English/Nat Many say the quickest way to a woman's heart is through jewellery, but for the Filipinos that jewellery should include a south sea pearl. The jewels of the sea have recently been named the country's national gem. These could easily be some of the world's finest and biggest pearls. Either black or white, these gems make beautiful pieces on their own, or they can be set with other precious stones. They are Philippine south sea pearls -- the so-called pride of Filipino women. Compared to other kinds of pearls, south sea pearls are bigger in diameter and have a variety of colours. Produced from Pinctada oysters, they can only be cultured in tropical waters. Last October, in a presidential decree signed by Philippine President Fidel Ramos, the south sea p...

Here are some more compilation of topics and latest discussions relates to this video, which we found thorough the internet. Hope this information will helpful to get idea in brief about this. To understand the difference, it's important to know what pearls really are. The majority of cultured pearls available today derive from freshwater mussels and a gritty resistance between the two indicates that the pearls are probably real all saltwater pearls, however, which include akoya, tahitian, and south sea, are bead nucleated. Fisherman found world's largest Pearl worth $100million and kept it under his bed for 10 YEARS This giant pearl could be the biggest ever found in the world and five times larger than the previous record - after being handed in by a fisherman. The man, who has not been identified, found the priceless 34kg gem ten years ago in sea off the coast of Palawan Island, Philippines. He didn't know the potential eye-watering value of $100 million and kept it as a 'good luck charm' in his rundown wooden home. But a fire at the property earlier this year forced him to have a clear out and move house. The fisherman handed it in to the stunned local tourism officer in remote Puerto Princesca who verified that it had been found in a giant clam. The priceless rock measures a staggering 1ft foot wide...

Having stayed in Manila for a couple of days, now it was time to go to Puerto Princesa Palawan. We had already booked our Philippines airlines tickets. We reached to Manila airport well ahead of schedule time. That's better rather than being late and running around at the airport. Manila airport has improved a lot, earlier it had some bad reputation and was said to be among the worst airports of the world. But now the things have turned around and it's become a very nice airport. Free WiFi is available throughout the airport terminal with strong signals and the best thing is that WiFi service is unlimited not just for one hour as you find it in the most airports in the world. But NAIA offers unlimited WiFi services as long as you are inside the terminal building, you can use the WiFi and...

Wondering why you should go to El Nido? Check out Adventurous Will's blog about El Nido! https://adventurouswill.com/el-nido/ This video describes the two main options for traveling from Manila to El Nido, Palawan in 2016. Traveling to El Nido can be rather time consuming to research. I break down the transportation into two main options. Option 1 involves taking a flight from Manila to Puerto Princesa and then taking a shared van ride to El Nido. This route is fairly cheap but takes a great deal of time and energy. Option 2 is to take the direct flight from Manila to El Nido. It's the quickest way to get to Palawan from Manila. The airline has recently changed from ITI to Air Swift. They are very similar, but the prices and luggage policies have changed in early 2016. Instagram: htt...
Because of the temperamental weather conditions, my family and I decided to go on a city tour of Puerto Princesa instead of the typical underground river tour. The highlight of the whole tour has got to be visiting the Palaw'an tribe - we learnt about their customs, rituals and language. If you get a chance to visit the beautiful city of Puerto Princesa, the Palaw'an tribal village is a must-see! The last stop of our tour was Baker's hill - a very instagrammable destination!
